A perfect jungle tour for those looking to experience some trekking and camping in the beautiful Gunung Leuser rainforest. A unique opportunity to spot amazing wildlife resident to the National Park with our experienced jungle guides. This package includes transfers from Medan, a 2 day/1 night trek and 2 nights’ in a stunning room next to the Bohorok River. Uninterrupted views from the balcony of the room often reveal orangutans, monkeys, monitor lizards and hornbills, as well as a myriad of other wildlife indigenous to this rainforest.

After a night soaking up the sounds and atmosphere of the jungle from the comfort of the room, set off with the guides into the depths of the National Park for a closer look at all the wonders it holds. Camp overnight in a traditional style tent or for extra privacy dome tents can be provided.

For this package we offer the choice of two routes. A more remote route allows you to avoid bumping into other tourists in the jungle. This route requires a good to high level of fitness and is ideal for the more adventurous trekker. A gentler option still maximises wildlife spotting opportunities, but avoids some of the steeper slopes. It includes an exhilarating river tube raft back to the village and on the second day.

•  Day One

Pickup from Medan, Kuala Namu airport or Medan guesthouse by private transportation and journey 3-4 hours direct to Bukit Lawang.

Depending upon arrival time explore the village or relax at the guesthouse and soak up the sounds and ambience of the jungle for the remainder of the day/evening.

•  Day Two

After a hearty breakfast, set off with the guides into the jungle, firstly trekking around the old orangutan feeding platform area to try and spot some semi wild orangutans foraging in their natural habitat.

Continue on deeper into the jungle. The guide will teach you about the flora and fauna of the National Park. Stop off regularly for wildlife spotting opportunities and fruit refreshment.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle in the early afternoon next to the river or a high point where you can take in a spectacular view of the primary rainforest. In the mid to late afternoon the guide will select a suitable spot next to the river to set up camp. Help out with fishing for dinner or learn some jungle skills from the guides.

•  Day Three

After breakfast river tube back to the village from the camp. Explore the village and the local area for the remainder of the day. Relax and recuperate at the guesthouse accommodation.

Option to take a more remote route off the usual tourist trail and camp in a camping location not frequented by other tourists. This would mean trekking rather than river tubing back to the village on the second day of the trek.

•  Day Four

Journey 3-4 hours back to Medan by private transport back to central Medan or Kuala Namu airport.

All our guides are extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the park, fully licensed and first aid trained.

All our guides follow the rules and guidelines of the National Park.

NB: For those with more time to spend in Bukit Lawang we are happy to offer you an extended itinerary, which could include more days spent trekking, Indonesian cooking lessons, cycling tours through padi fields and villages to Batu Katak, traditional dance lessons, becak tours around the local area or even Pecak Silat (Indonesian martial art) lessons!

We usually run this tour as a private tour based on a minimum of 2 people. Subject to availability you can choose the dates.
