For the adventurous traveller looking for a trek and overnight jungle camping experience in the stunning rain forest of Gunung Leuser National Park we offer a budget priced 2 day / 1 night trek.
A visit to Sumatra is not complete without experiencing the amazing primary rain forest of North Sumatra and the National Park. As well as a chance to spot a huge array of wildlife such as Sumatran orangutans, gibbons, hornbills and sunbears, this is also a chance to detach yourself from the constant interruption of modern technology and find a true feeling of inner peace in the magical sounds of the jungle surroundings.
Camping in the jungle is a lot of fun and gives you a great opportunity to spot wildlife during dawn and dusk. It isn’t uncommon to spot wildlife when you are sat quietly around the camp area.

This expedition is ideal for solo travellers or small groups looking to trek with others and share this once in a life time experience.
All our guides are extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the park, fully licensed and first aid trained. We are very careful to follow the guidelines of the National Park, so groups will never be larger than 7 people. |

ITINERARY:
• Day 1
Meet with the guide early in the morning in the village of Bukit Lawang. Walk around the old feeding platform area where you might spot some semi wild orangutans peering down at you from the trees. (If the rangers are providing provisions to the semi wild orangutans you can also make an early visit to the platform).
Continue deeper into the jungle with the guides, stopping regularly for wildlife spotting opportunities or to learn about the fascinating flora and fauna indigenous to this amazing jungle.
In the early afternoon stop off at a beautiful spot by the river or at a high point to take in spectacular views of the jungle. Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing on the trek.
In the mid to late afternoon the guides will select a suitable location by the river to set up the camp. Learn a few jungle skills from the guides or help out with fishing for dinner.
Take a refreshing swim in the river whilst the guides prepare a delicious evening feast.
Share some stories and card games with the guides before retiring for the night in a traditional style tent (Dome tents also available)
• Day 2
Wake to the sounds of the jungle. Hear gibbons singing and the long call of the orangutan. After breakfast continue trekking for the morning.
Option to stay at the camp and spend the morning swimming and paddling in the river.
After a final lunch at a picturesque location the guides will pack everyone’s kit into waterproof bags and containers and secure to an inner tube raft.
Everyone will be provided with life jackets before you launch into the river for an exhilarating river tube back to the village.
NB: This trek does not include transport or accommodation in Bukit Lawang, but we are happy to arrange this for you if required. We can also organise this trip as a private tour during dates of your choice.
